Evening Primrose (Oenothera biennis), also known as the evening star, sun drop, weedy evening primrose, German rampion, and hogweed, is a species of Oenothera belonging to the evening primrose family (Onagraceae).
The plant is native to eastern and central North America and widely naturalized elsewhere in temperate and subtropical regions.
Evening primrose oil is produced from the plant but the plant was first introduced to Europe in the early 17th century as an ornamental plant in botanical gardens.
It is used both as a kitchen herb and as a medicinal plant.
