The Aloe-Leafed Cymbidium (Cymbidium aloifolium), is an orchid plant species native to Asia, especially China and Southeast Asia from Burma to Sumatra.
It is commonly found growing between rocks or on another plant.
The word cymbidium derives from the Greek word "kumbos" meaning "hole, cavity" and the Latin specific name is just a translation of the English "aloe-leafed.
The original illustration featured on the magnets was first published in 1893 in the "Orchid Album: Comprising coloured figures and descriptions of new, rare and beautiful orchidaceous plants" conducted by Robert Warner and Benjamin Samuel Williams.
The botanical descriptions were written by Thomas Moore and the colored illustrations were done by John Nugent Fitch.
