Nepenthes gymnamphora is a tropical carnivorous plant endemic to Java and Sumatra.The plant belongs to a family of tropical pitcher plants (Nepenthaceae) but there is much debate surrounding the taxonomic status of this species.
The original is a lithographic color plate by Ernst Halecke and was first published in 1904 in his book "Kunstformen der Natur" ( Art Forms in Nature). It consists of 100 prints of various organisms, many of which were first described by Haeckel himself.
Ernst Heinrich Philipp August Haeckel (1834 –1919) was a German zoologist, naturalist, marine biologist, and artist who discovered, described and named thousands of new species.
