Hoya is a genus of 200–300 species of tropical plants in the dogbane family (Apocynaceae).

Most are native to Asia including India, China, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Indonesia.

Common names for this genus are waxplant, waxvine, waxflower or simply hoya. The genus was named by botanist Robert Brown, in honor of his friend, botanist Thomas Hoy.

The botanical illustration is by John Nugent Fitch.

It was first published 1880 in "The Floral Magazine; comprising figures and descriptions of popular garden flowers" in London by L. Reeve & Co.

John Nugent Fitch (1840 – 1927) was a British botanical illustrator and lithographer. He was best known for his contribution of 528 plates to The Orchid Album, a landmark work of eleven volumes published between 1872 and 1897.
